Privacy Policy – Snipscribe

1. Scope and Overview

Snipscribe is a desktop application that helps users organize handwritten pen-and-paper notes by extracting tagged snippets from images. The application is designed to function primarily offline. However, for recognizing notations in your notes, snipscribe sends your image to snipscribe server. This image data is retained for a short duration only for the purpose of notation extraction and will be deleted immediately once the server sends back the data to snipscribe desktop application.

2. Data Controller

For the purposes of applicable data protection laws, Snipscribe is the data controller only for limited information, such as communications you initiate with us.

Most data processed by the application remains solely on your device and is not accessed by Snipscribe.

3. Information We Collect

Snipscribe require account registration to track requests to our API server for the functioning of its core features. The following data is handled:

User content: Images of handwritten notes, extracted snippets, tags, and related metadata are stored locally on your device. Identification of small-regions of your notes (snippets) happens in the server, for which your note image will be uploaded to the snipscribe server, which is short-lived in the server and will be deleted in a few seconds once request from the desktop application is complete.
Application settings: Preferences and configuration data are stored locally on your device.
Support communications: If you contact us, we may receive your email address and the information you choose to provide.

4. Sensitive Personal Data

Snipscribe does not intentionally collect or process Sensitive Personal Data or Information (SPDI).

Any sensitive information contained in handwritten notes remains under your sole control on your local device.

6. Network and Online Activity

Snipscribe is designed to operate offline. Limited network access may occur for:

Signing up / creating account
Using the core feature for snippet identification
Checking for software updates
Accessing documentation or support pages

7. Data Storage and Security

All handwritten notes, images, snippets, and tags are stored locally on your device except for snippet identification and extraction in the server, which is short-lived in the server.

Reasonable security practices are followed for any data handled directly by Snipscribe. You are responsible for securing your device and backups.

8. Data Retention

Snipscribe retains personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected.

Local data can be deleted at any time by you through application controls or by uninstalling the software.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

Access information we hold about you
Request correction or deletion
Withdraw consent where applicable
Object to certain processing activities
